new things

this has been one of the most memorable decembers evar! with an A! i’ve been all smiles =) [excluding work..because retail during the holidays makes you want to kill yourself]. as the year comes to a closing..i have to say…this has been the best month for me this year. had some great memories, spent time with some great people. and i received the absolute BEST christmas gifts evaaaaaaar. case in point:

i fell in love with this bag when i saw it in the catalog and was quite surprised to receive it. <3

my dash was on the verge of eternal death. i am officially a part of team blackberry!

you can never go wrong with kidrobot products

teehee

i so needed a new ipod. after my last one was stolen, i never had the time to replace it. argyle skin ftw.

what a great ending to a horrible year. gonna start 2009 with a bang in new york! it’ll be the first time that i will see snow and new york. excitement! i’m smiling right now! and using a whole lot of exclamation points!

i am FINALLY done with this semester. it was torturous. whew. this past month has been nothing but wonderful, despite all of the stress. =) i haven’t been this happy in soooooooooo long.

lots of eating out this week. i’m accumulating a new and improved list for 2009. i can now check off the oceanaire! it was fucking INCREDIBLE. holy shit, the oysters were so freaking good. i’m a die hard oyster fan. we also had 2 bottles of this great reisling and two different types of lobster. dessert consisted of this cake with meringue drenched with alcohol. it was pretty potent haha. please excuse the cursing….but there’s simply no other way to describe how good the seafood was. =P

we saw anjelah johnson last night at improv comedy. eh. she wasn’t too funny. the only thing that was worthwhile would probably be the nail salon bit but even then, it’s pretty played out. BORING. jo koy > anjelah johnson by far. i want to see charlie murphy in january.

ahhhh, so many things to be excited about! the holidays, reuniting with friends, spending quality time with everyone, and 2009! i can’t wait to start the new year. it’s going to be so much better than 2008, i know it.

feeling a bit euphoric. it’s different. i like different.

and this is a badass interpretation of eric clapton’s wonderful tonight. totally different feel.

looking at houston from the 45th floor is simply amazing. the black sky, the lights…it was great. the entire time that i was sitting there looking out of the window, i was thinking about the iron and wine cover of ’such great heights.’

things are looking up =)

this weekend was great….all because i finally got to see thomas [who i haven't seen in over a month]. we basically spent the entirety of the weekend eating asian food, since the asian cuisine in dallas sucks. i managed to get tapioca on all 3 days. watermelon is my absolute favorite especially on hot days that make your butt sweat.

friday – consisted of fufu cafe and hanging out with carol/chris. johnnys and then…somewhere in midtown. i didn’t have much fun during the latter part of the evening due to a strange irritation in my right eye.

saturday – more asian food, running errands…we played wii fit at chris’. it’s AWESOME…video games + fitness = genius. i purchased one of those bud light clamato cheladas that carol always buys..i could have sworn it tasted good even though it sounds really bad [imagine carbonated v8...the original v8, not v8 splash] but i guess i thought it was good only because i took one sip of hers…it’s different when you’re trying to down almost 16 ounces of it. it was sheer torture…never again. we ended the night at howl at the moon..and venturing back to chris’ house for some of his terrible homemade taquitos. we thought that there were premade taquitos at his house but got stuck with uncooked potatoes mixed in some egg and sausage. the one time that i was actually glad to have been passed out and missed out on the food.

sunday – my first time at improv comedy. the headlining comedian was jo koy

he’s been on mad tv, comedy central, etc. he was REALLY funny. i could not believe how hard i laughed because he had a very slow start..i was kind of afraid that he’d be a complete let down. i laughed so hard i cried. i definitely recommend him…his one bit on blow jobs and how to stand up for yourself is hilarious.

sigh..now i have to wait another month until i see tmas again. long distance for the lose.

went to swirll

i decided to be brave and try the fruity pebbles as the topping. should have opted for the fruit but it wasn’t bad. i love fruity pebbles..but i think i’ll just reserve that for breakfast..not on my yogurt.

i’ve also been listening to the sondre lerche albums. absolutely amazing. very partial to his jazz album. love it. i highly recommend all of his albums.

summer has officially started for me. i can finally SLEEP and bum around. there’s also lots of things to look forward to:

- piano. i finally have an abundance of time to work on some new pieces and continue working on my skillz. with a z.

- dtown. i’m going, going, back, back…to dallas! at the end of june and for two weeks at the end of july to visit the boyfriend and friends. kimmie and i have already decided to spend countless days in a drunken stupor. i’m quite excited. quite.

- byc. 2nd year with the camp, first time at the bodhi center for me. it’s going to be bigger than last year! can’t wait!

learning how to cook [and actually cook], customizing munnys, labbits, and dunnys, and catching up on my novels and friends…are also on my agenda…as well as gaming! the land of azeroth awaits for my return.

i’m using a lot of exclamation marks!

pictures from 5.9 at the buffalo bayou stargazing event. too bad there were no visible stars…because it was in the middle of downtown!

i watched the much anticipated Ironman today. it was AWESOME to the nth power. my favorite marvel movie so far. i thought the role fit robert downey jr. perfectly [not to mention he's still hot]. and i’ve been waiting to see gwyneth back on the screen for awhile. she’s one of my favorites…a very humble, classy actress..who happens to be married to chris martin and still manages to keep a relatively low-key private life. i love that song he wrote for their son [moses]..it’s such a great song..check it out! i also got extremely teary-eyed when yinsen died. just another thing to add onto my pansy list.

looking back, i’ve noticed a particular change in my character. prior to february of last year, i was depressed.. i became so numb with pain that i was completely emotionless. i went really cold and refused to cry, feel, smile…literally became a robot. and it worked for me because i could no longer feel anything, which to me..was better than feeling hurt. as soon as i ended it with my ex, it seemed like the floodgates completely opened and i became so flipping emotional! never before did i used to cry during touching scenes in movies, or in books…but now i do damnit. i absolutely despise feeling vulnerable. i cannot believe how often i cry now and how easily i wear my heart on my figurative sleeve because i don’t usually wear shirts with sleeves. and i’m incredibly mushy now…i usually hate the sweet talk but i think i’m an avid giver of it now. ugh. so this is what’s been hiding underneath all this time……a gay little pansy. i love the cheese. wish i had more of it.

also ate at miyako’s today for their 24.99 all you can eat sushi special. my god…willis and i are in a food coma right now. it was great! and this lychee sake we had…sooooooo goood. mmmmmm….orgasm in my mouth. eww, that doesn’t sound right.

long distance is incredibly hard. it’s been a bit easier than before and i have adjusted but it’s still very difficult. there’s just so many things that i want to do and things that i am doing without him..and things he’s doing without me. really sucks.

i think it’s the pansy in me that’s talking…usually peaks around this time

i had a wonderful birthday weekend. i got to spend it with some of my favorite people AND i had a lot of firsts:

- Camping. it was really enjoyable. i lived a sheltered life (my mom forbid me from going outside a lot due to my allergic reaction to insect bites). i can’t wait to go again..hopefully, next time it won’t be so damn cold…and i won’t have to share a sleeping bag.

- Smores. oh-em-gee!!! i’ve had smores flavored everything but nothing can beat the real deal. i used to be so envious of those blasted boy scouts because they got to roast marshmallows around the campfire and eat smores! we actually came up with a million dollar idea for smores..which i will not disclose. mu ha ha.

- Fishing. i didn’t really fish but i got to watch it firsthand. it’s just as it looks (boring)….i suppose it can be relaxing..and perhaps it would have been better if it were 10 degrees warmer..and we were on a boat instead of on rocks with dead fish laying around. gross.

- Sleeping in a tent. i used to LOVE sleeping in tents. i was never able to do it outside..but whenever i went to a friend’s house..we would always set up kiddie tents inside the house. and we always built forts. hmm…kind of want to build one now

and while spending prolonged periods of time in the great outdoors..i managed to not get a single insect bite. AMAZING. seriously. and it gave me a reason to not shower. mu ha ha. im gross. _______________________________________________________________________________________________

thomas took me to Madness Comics & Games and I got some new additions to my collection

david horvath’s two faced dunny

i got more series 2 labbits..and i got doubles! damnit..

i came home to find this on my door. my mom is so cute.

there was more candy but i ate it. thanks connie! you can fill in the cavities that you gave me next year.

she also gave me balloons. you can’t see it but the left one is a dora the explorer balloon =D

during my trip, i also came to the conclusion that:

- the rock band guitar sucks balls.

- park rangers are no fun. apparently fun is not allowed on camping trips according to their rules and regulations

- flying to dallas > driving to dallas by far! i saved myself a total of 6 hours and 40 minutes!

- johnny carino’s happy hour is AWESOME. bellini’s and italian nachos. mmm…so delicious

yeah i’m creepy! so what!

another good weekend in austin. highlights included:

1. HIN. my first car show ever. possibly my last. i must admit..i whined about it a bit pre-show but it got better. i’m not really into cars but it was actually pretty interesting seeing the plethora of modified cars…mixed with a bunch of ghetto people and a strange…yet familiar stench of swisher sweet cigars (or perhaps something else). the best part was NOT lil keke and lloyd…nor the half naked car models BUT the car dyno! that was really fun to me…i dig it. i have a greater appreciation for bmw’s (which by the way thomas has one of the best looking ones in his car KrEw in my opinion) annnndddd i can make a mean car noise. just ask me, i’ll do it.

2. eastside cafe! my goodness…words cannot describe the glorious ways in which eastside has found its way into my heart. thomas introduced me and it has become one of my FAVORITE places to go to…and i vow to pay a vist everytime i go to austin, or at least try to. it was a house that became a restaurant (hardly any renovations to detract it away from looking like a genuine house, not a restaurant)..and they have this cute garden, garden shop (lots of knickknacks ), and they grow their own vegetables!!! lots of cats surrounding the premises haha. thomas and i were seated in what i assume was a sitting room? we had the smoked salmon ravioli and crabmeat-stuffed shrimp. sides were corn stuffing and butternut sqaush with a sesame sauce (and it was served in halves!!). and the salad…*drool* had this raspberry dressing that was to die for!! we didn’t take any pictures…noooooooooo

3. cafe magnolia. another restaurant introduced to me by thomas. this quaint little place that apparently specializes in breakfast foods. we had this marvelous queso. best i’ve had. and some turkey cristo sandwich..which was only okay. i appreciated the setting. if i lived near there i’d probably come there with a book in hand for breakfast.

4. taco deli. !!!!!. so good!!! we had the cowboy, happy, ahi tuna, and snapper tacos. you get your choice of either corn, flour, or wheat tortillas…and theyve got this wasabi sauce thats really good!!

5. pterry’s. awesome burgers! i attempted to order onion rings with my combo, which wasn’t on the menu…i could have sworn i heard brad say onion rings..but he actually said grilled onions. i lose. the seating area was outdoors surrounded by bushes with flowers in bloom. flowers in bloom = bees. trash = bees. i’m allergic to bees!! and i’ve been lucky enough to not have gotten stung by one (knock on wood)…for some reason, the bees were just lurking around us..following us from table to table and giving us a hard time. they didn’t seem to bother anyone else. i hate bees! and wasps!

i realize that this entire post was about food and without pictures!! but man…austin is great. i want to try and move there upon graduation. boyfriend did a great job showing me around on friday and educating me on cars and such. the weather was great except that it got a bit chilly at night. otherwise, yay!
