January 2008

as the month of January comes to an end, i am obliged to recap highlights on what seems like such a short month.

- New Years

  • First time i actually went out and didn’t spend it with family. got a room at intercontinental and went to Liz & Quan’s party at Berry Hills. it was really fun…and different. i am happy to report that i did not get shitfaced to the point of total incoherence (i actually remember the entire evening!) …only because i had to work on new years day. boo. still fun. a good start to a new year, lots of changes. and a new boyfriend! who would have thought..

- Dash

  • Upon Thomas’ departure to Asia for a month, I had the extreme pleasure of taking care of his rabbit (dash). i didn’t think that i would get too attached because i mean..come on..it’s a rabbit (not to mention it smelled) but he has definitely, definitely grown on me. i spend countless hours a day petting, grooming, cleaning, and just staring at this cute little creature. i’m in love!

-Splurge

  • i generally do not spend a lot of money on myself but i decided that it’s nice to indulge in the finer things every once in awhile..if done correctly. so, i’ve made a resolution to have only one big purchase per month. for the month of january, i decided to purchase a new purse. i’ve been working at coach for a little while and have been constantly haggled by my fellow employees for not representing the brand…i.e. not carrying a coach bag. i generally do not like toting a gaudy purse..but it started to grow on me.

it’s the special edition XL heritage stripe satchel. it is ridiculously LARGE. i didn’t realize how big it was until it arrived…i can fit my old purse in there along with a bottle of alcohol, a bunch of hamburgers, a baby….EASILY. ok maybe not that big..but it really is huge.

as i was in the backroom inspecting my new bag, my manager proceeds to ask where i got my jeans (rock n’ republics) and how much..and then my co-worker (quite a bit older than the rest of the staff) yells:

“JULIE! There are children starving in the world and you’re spending that much on a pair of jeans? are you insane?!”

i don’t know..i thought that was really funny for some reason. besides, it was a gift! which btw are my only pair of expensive jeans.

january was extremely uneventful for the most part…aside from not going out, i dedicated most of my days to studying, working, watching movies, reading, etc. for a really boring month..it sure went by fast.

looking forward to february..even though i hate valentines…with an undying passion.

i’ve been staying in lately. aside from thomas not being apart of my daily schedule, i’ve made it a personal decision to not venture further than the comforts of my room. quite the deviation from what i usually do after class and i’ve noticed a few things:

1. i’ve had a fair amount of time to myself which translates into a lot of uninterrupted sessions of calming, yet pretty boring conversations with my brain….the usual life questions. ‘what am i doing with my life?’ ‘am i really doing what i love to do?’ ‘why do rabbits go #2 so damn frequently?’ ok…maybe the last one isn’t one of the usual questions.

2. im spending less on food and whatever else comes along with going out..which surprisingly, is coming out to be a substantial amount. man..i spend a lot on food.

3. i managed to clean my room, which i haven’t done in perhaps..3-4 months?

4. more time with the mom

5. catching up on movies, books, homework

it’s pretty sweet to be on this going out hiatus. not saying that i’m going to be completely antisocial but it’s nice to have some alone time every once in awhile.

and i leave you with a photobooth picture that thomas and i took not too long ago

thomas didn’t resist too much when i told him i wanted to take these pictures. i’m not sure why i enjoy these types of photos. i went through a lot of trouble to get some change for a $20 just so i could spend $3 (which btw..why is it so damn difficult to get change?! do you really have to buy something in order for people to exchange your bills. GEEZ!) on a horrible quality photo that could have been easily taken at home. they make me smile though. it was well worth it.

farewell 2007 – you were good to me
