just recently, i had a conversation with a friend about promises and pacts. my take on promises are: if you make them, you keep them..always. that is, until today. i was struggling with this far-fetched promise that i made with my ex (who is still in my life) during high school. and i started to wonder, when exactly does a promise or a pact become defunct? we all know that promises are voided if and when you hate that person with a deep-seeded passion, if they’re completely out of your life, or if the promise is mutually vetoed. the problem arises when…the promise was made however many years ago….and that person is still active in your life….and it hasn’t been voided yet.
so, why exactly am i so intent on keeping promises? the answer that i formulated was because…far too often…people made empty promises to me and i decided long ago that i would not do the same. in retrospect, it is pretty retarded that i still intended to keep that promise with my ex…but he knocked some sense into me.
Me: If you make a promise or a pact, you keep it always…otherwise, don’t even bother to make it at all
Tony: As a golden rule, you should keep it….but things change, conditions change, everything changes, thats why long term promises are hard to keep
Me: yes…this is true. hmm, it is rather ridiculous for me to marry someone that i don’t love..only because its the principle of the promise. So, why am I so extreme about pacts and promises?
Tony: I just think that you’re being emo. You’re afraid of being alone and you’re insecure about yourself. You even said so yourself that you are. When you’re insecure, you just end up doubting your capabilities.
basically, my fear of breaking promises…is revolved around my insecurity. blast. i need to stop being so unsure of myself.
on another note, i was perusing through Geekipedia (awesome magazine!) and i read this:
Punching out terse dispatches on a handheld has quickly taken its place alongside email and instant messaging as a major mode of communication. To better understand the appeal, we T9′ed 13-year-old Morgan Pozgarm who won the 2007 LG National Texting Championship after launching a 151character phrase in 42 seconds. She earned $25,000

what is the world coming to? how did i live my life before i got unlimited texting?
oh, and this past weekend was amazing! I went to the state fair for the first time. minus the rain and the walk, it was great. fried foods galore and rides. brad took me on that slingshot ride that shoots you high into the sky while sitting in a gladiator’s inspired metal sphere. i recall screaming, ” OHHHH MYYYYYYY GAAAAAWWWWWWD!!” in a freakishly high pitched squeal.
